At MaldonCourtPreparatory School we use the government’s Framework for Teaching Mathematics published by the DfEE.
We endeavour to instil in our children an enjoyment of mental mathematics, which is taught daily in order to help them develop mental calculation strategies to be used in real life problem solving situations.
Children will also be encouraged to develop the ability to talk about the subject with confidence and use the language of mathematics meaningfully.
Mathematical experiences begin at home and we continue to build on these through activities relating to number, shape and space, time, measurement, pattern and handling data.
Computers, calculators and other resources are used wherever they can enhance children’s learning and understanding.
Our policy of weekly testing on number bonds and multiplication tables, ensures that all children have a thorough grasp of these essential skills.
Children in KS2 are taught by the specialist Mathematics teacher. Our Year 2 class have the specialist teacher for one lesson a week.
