Dear Parents,
I hope that you have all had a lovely week. This half term has flown by with so many fun and exciting activities for the children including many new initiatives that have been introduced such as our Forest Schools ‘Welly Wednesday’ in Reception and our hugely popular Stay and Play sessions in Nursery. This is where parents come in to have sessions with their children in the nursery provision. These have been a fantastic insight for parents as to what happens daily in our excellent Nursery provision and it has been really welcomed. Thank you for the overwhelmingly positive feedback.
On Tuesday, we had a whole school focus on Safer Internet Day. I can’t reiterate enough just how important this is to us as parents and for our children. It was a brilliant opportunity to remind our children how to stay safe, kind and responsible online. Across the school, children took part in a whole school assembly on staying safe online followed by discussions and activities focused on staying safe on the internet, understanding how to seek help and making positive choices when using technology. I am grateful for your continued support in reinforcing these messages at home. It really is imperative.
I would like to welcome Archie in Form 5 and Albie in Form 4 to the Maldon Court family. We are delighted to welcome both boys and their family into our school.
Today, our KS2 pupils represented Maldon Court at the ISA (Independent Schools Association) Cross Country event held at Littlegarth Independent School. The children demonstrated fantastic determination, resilience and sportsmanship throughout the event and we were extremely proud of the way they supported one another and represented the school. It was wonderful for me to spectate and cheer them on. Well done to every single child who took part. It was a wonderful example of teamwork, perseverance and positive attitude in very muddy conditions!
Congratulations to Lachlan in Reception who won the Headteacher’s award this week for his excellent progress in phonics.
I hope that you all have a wonderful half term and I look forward to seeing you on Monday 23rd.

Nursery - Chinese new year
Nursery have thoroughly enjoyed exploring our Chinese New Year topic this week. We have been talking about the year we were born and which animal represents us on the Chinese calendar. The children decorated their own Horse pictures with glitter and discussed the Year of the Horse.
In the role-play zone, the children enjoyed serving each other Chinese food and had fun trying to use chopsticks. Our tuff trays included noodles, red glitter, and activities focusing on the number 8. We also took part in Chinese dancing and made our own Chinese dragon to use during physical play.
It has been a fun and engaging week full of learning, creativity and celebration!

Reception
In Reception, we have been learning about Chinese New Year. We practised writing numbers in Mandarin and learned what our zodiac animals were for the year we were born. For Welly Wednesday this week, we used the big open space at Leeches Garden to reenact the story of the Great Race. We were each given an animal to be and pretended to swim across the river. We had to listen carefully to the story to make sure we finished in the correct order. It was great fun working as a team to act out the story! We also saw a beautiful rainbow on our drizzly walk back to school.

Form 2
Form 2 have started their multiplication and division unit within their maths lessons. The children have been making the connection between repeated addition and multiplication. As an introduction to the topic, Form 2 used the Duplo bricks and paint to form their equal groups and then used repeated addition to work out the final number sentence and answer. The children loved using a different way to learn about equal groups and repeated addition. Well done, Form 2!

Form 4
This week, Form 4 created a ‘cloud in a jar’ as part of their science studies on States of Matter. We also carried out an investigation to establish whether temperature has an effect on evaporation. Our results were not as impressive as we had hoped; the grey, cold, damp weather did not provide the dramatic changes we had hoped. We had far more success starting our Myan masks, we cannot wait to see how they look when they are finished.

PE Winter Olympics
This week the children have been absolutely inspired by The Winter Olympics. In themed PE lessons the children have had the opportunity to practice some of the skills the Olympians have been displaying. They have been practising curling, snowboarding, ski jumping, slalom, speed skating and even some bobsleigh. It’s been a fantastic week of sport and it is wonderful to see how the Olympics continue to inspire the younger generations.

ISA - Regional Cross Country
Today we took our Year 3-6 Cross Country team to the ISA Regional (East) Cross Country Competition. This prestigious event is open to all ISA member schools in the Eastern region and attracts some of the very best runners. We are so proud of our team today, we all know how tough cross country events are, but to compete on such a tough course against such an incredible standard of runners is exceptional. Every one of our runners today did themselves and our school proud. There were some fantastic results, with Gracie May finishing 23rd as a Form 5 runner racing Form 6 girls. We are delighted to announce we have 3 runners who have now qualified for the national finals at the end of the month. The top ten runners from each race are invited to represent ISA East in the ISA National Finals. Congratulations to Isabella who qualified in 2nd place and Meghan and Seb VB who qualified by placing 4th in their events. This is the second time that Isabella and Meghan have qualified for a national event and we are absolutely delighted that they have maintained their incredible standards and that Seb can now join them. This was a fantastic morning of sport and we are so proud of all of our runners.
