Weekly Newsletter

Dear Parents,

It has been a lovely first week back following the half term break.

The week started with individual and sibling photographs and the children all looked so smart in their winter uniforms (please remember to label all items of uniform) and parents had clearly spent a long time ensuring hair was beautifully tied back and styled.

On Thursday the whole school, from Pre-Reception to Form 6, took part in First Aid workshops. The children learnt a range of skills including how to apply bandages, how to do CPR using the song ‘Baby Shark’ to keep in time and finally practised using the resuscitation dummies. Learning First Aid is such an important skill and it was wonderful that all children were happily engaging in this activity.

I would like to wish all our families celebrating Diwali on Sunday a wonderful time celebrating with their families and community. Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights and usually lasts 5-6 days. During this time homes and temples are illuminated with diyas (oil lamps), candles and lanterns and floors being decorated with rangoli designs. It is also marked with fireworks

Finally, good luck to all our LAMDA students who are taking part in the Chelmsford Festival of Performing Arts on Saturday. I know they will all be fantastic.

DONATIONS TO THE FOOD BANKS

This week, the heads of school helped to donate all the harvest donations to The Elim Church and The Dengie Food Bank. Thank you for all the donations, the food banks were delighted to receive the vital supplies for them to support the local community.

Nursery

For our first week back, Nursery have enjoyed exploring our new topic, Fireworks and Colour, with a focus on the festivals of Guy Fawkes Night and Diwali. Our role play zone became a colourful Firework Display, complete with hanging decorations and flashing lights to represent fireworks in the night sky. The children have loved taking on the roles of customers and shopkeepers, serving hot dogs, chips and candy floss to their friends throughout the week. We have also been learning about Diwali and created our own diya lamps. The children enjoyed decorating their lamps with colourful collage pieces, finishing them with a bright yellow flame. For our physical activity, we created our very own firework display! The children held colourful scarves and moved around the room, pretending to be fireworks. We popped, exploded and burst into action, jumping, hopping and skipping as our fireworks lit up the sky! It has been a lovely first week back, full of colour, creativity and lots of imaginative play!

RECEPTION

Reception are learning about celebrations this half term. This week, we kicked off our topic with a bang and enjoyed learning about fireworks and Diwali. We created some wonderful Rangoli patterns on the playground with our Buddies. We have also been strengthening our funky fingers by completing lots of firework-themed fine motor activities, including creating fireworks using playdough and lollipop sticks.

Form 4

Form 4 has finished their standing stones, we thoroughly enjoyed working with the clay and painting them to make them look realistic. We also finished our art story books about the legend of Beowulf and made some Anglo-Saxon masks similar the one found at Sutton Hoo. We feel that we have learnt a great deal about the Anglo-Saxons.

FIRST AID DAY

On Thursday, it was First Aid Day at Maldon Court! All the children, from Pre-Reception to Form 6, were lucky to take part in a special first aid lesson with Kelly, a former paramedic and owner of Kelly’s First Aid. During the sessions, the children learnt some important life-saving skills, including how to help someone in need, perform CPR and what to do in an emergency.

The children particularly enjoyed putting someone into the recovery position, applying bandages and learning which number to call in an emergency. They even had a go at performing CPR to the rhythm of the song, ‘Baby Shark’.

A huge thank you to Kelly for such an exciting and hands-on day. The children learnt so much and had great fun along the way!

Padel is Coming to Maldon Court

This term we have been working behind the scenes with Padel United who have some class padel facilities in Maldon. We are delighted to let you know that this term we will be introducing padel to all children in KS2 as part of their curriculum PE lessons.

Padel is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world and it is easy to see why. Combining elements of tennis and squash, it is played on a court surrounded by glass walls. It's easy to learn, great fun and a fantastic way to develop teamwork, coordination and quick reactions.

We are so excited to introduce this sport to the children, who we know will be thrilled with the opportunity. Further details will follow through Parentmail.
