Dear Parents,
Welcome back. I hope that you all had a wonderful break and spent quality time with your family and friends. Our Spring term starts with a distinctive Winter feel to it with bitterly cold weather to start our days! Thank you all for ensuring that the children are fully equipped for the weather with their duffle coats, hats, scarves and gloves. It is imperative that the children have these as we endeavour to get the children out in the fresh air at playtime and lunchtimes as much as practically possible.
We have had a fantastic start back and it is genuinely so heartwarming to see our children so happy to come back to school. Although having precious time off with family, it is lovely for all of us to get back into a routine and the children have embraced this and taken it all in their stride. On that note, I would like to warmly welcome Warren and Albie who have started in Form 2 and Pre-Reception. Also, welcome to Charlie who has started in Form 5. All three boys have had an excellent week and have settled in superbly into their respective classes. I know that you will all welcome them and their families in our Maldon Court community.
In Celebration Assembly yesterday, the new Form Captains were presented with their badges. Congratulations to all of the children – Arthur, Matilda, Sebastian, Ellie, Sofia and David. We look forward to them leading their classes with the care and responsibility that the children relish. Congratulations to our newly appointed Form 6 House Captains – Harrison, Noah and Enzo.
Finally, I have reiterated to the children yesterday about safety outside school going to and from school. Please may I ask that parents are extra vigilant in this weather with ensuring that we maintain the safety of the children when parking. Please minimise as much as possible parking outside the school in the mornings. The safety of the children will always remain our utmost priority and I appreciate your help and cooperation to ensure that this remains the case.

What a wonderful first week back we have had! The children have been sharing their news from over Christmas and enjoying a week discussing the New Year, our goals and celebrating with a New Year’s party, complete with role play party food, music, disco lights, and a photo booth. The children also enjoyed creating pictures of the numbers 2026 using a variety of media. Alongside this, we have had firework tuff trays with coloured rice and tinsel, which the children loved exploring.

Pre-Reception
Pre-Reception have had a great first week back in school and enjoyed telling us all about their Christmas adventures.
This week in PE Pre-Reception experimented with the tennis rackets, they learnt how to hold and use a tennis racket safely. The children also played some teamwork games getting the beanbags from one end of the line to the other without dropping them on the floor. Great work Pre-Reception and the lesson was enjoyed by all.

Form 1
Form 1 have had a fantastic week starting all of their new topics for this half term. In Science, we are learning all about Polar Places. In today’s hands on lesson, the children got to really experience what it would be like to go on an adventure to Antarctica. We had some fantastic discussions about what we would need to pack and wear and also had a very in depth discussion about how McDonald’s chicken nuggets would not be the best food to pack for our adventure! The children absolutely loved dressing up in the ski gear and acting out their own journey up the snowy mountains. Well done, Form 1.

Form 3
Form 3 have been excited to start their new computing project this week. The children were introduced to Scratch. Scratch is a programming language using block-based code that can be used to create a variety of projects such as games, digital stories and animations. As this was new to many of the children, we spent the lesson getting to grips with the interface and learning how to insert sprites and backdrops. We then had a go at combining simple coding blocks to create transitions between backdrops. I was impressed with how enthusiastic and excited the children were to explore this new interface! We will be learning more skills on Scratch as the children work towards creating their own interactive games.

FOrm 5
For homework, Form 5 were given a choice of Ancient Greek projects, and they certainly rose to the challenge. They demonstrated outstanding creativity and effort across a wide range of ideas. From impressive handmade sculptures and wonderfully imaginative costumes to magnificent culinary creations, it is safe to say that Form 5 could successfully open a restaurant of their own! Every piece of work was unique and beautifully presented. I am extremely impressed with Form 5 – very well done.
