Dear Parents,
Firstly, I hope you have all had a lovely week – despite the torrential rain! However, at school, every opportunity we have we still ensure that the children get to go outside for their fresh air at playtimes and lunchtimes. It is a really important part of the school day and it keeps the children ready and focused for their lessons in class.
I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for their help and support with the Quiz night on Friday in memory of Mr Guest and to raise funds for Farleigh Hospice. The hall was full to the capacity with tables of former parents, current parents, former staff, current staff and our Board of Visitors. It was such a fun night filled with lots of laughter and it had a brilliant atmosphere – just like Mr Guest would have wanted! We played a great Heads and Tails game as well as fantastic categories to answer in the main quiz. In addition to this, we had some amazing hampers donated and a huge array of raffle prizes from both parents and local businesses. It was incredible to see everyone’s generosity and we raised an incredible £810 on the raffle alone. The night was an overwhelming success and it really was delightful to see our Maldon Court families enjoying the parent friendships that have been made through their children being at the school. It is just one of the things that makes Maldon Court such a special place to be a part of. I am delighted to say that we raised a superb £1306. Farleigh Hospice will be invited into assembly to receive the donation. Thank you to each and every one of you.
I would like to wish Kerry O’Reilly and Maddie Blackmore, two of our Nursery practitioners, all the very best as they take their maternity leave. They are both due their babies imminently and I look forward to sharing the news with you when the babies arrive. Both staff members will be missed in nursery but we look forward to seeing them soon.
Finally, next week we will be highlighting Menta Health week. The children and specifically School Council have come up with some fantastic ideas and activities for the children to complete over the course of the week. Our week starts with a ‘Come as Yourself’ Day on Monday where children are invited in to school wearing something that reflects their personality. Please do ensure that the clothes are practical for a day in school. No donation is required on this day.

Stars of the Week
Nursery
This week, Nursery have enjoyed starting an exciting new topic on The British Isles. We began by focusing on Scotland, where the children learned about Burns Night, Scottish food, and traditions and created their own tartan pictures.
Throughout the week, we also explored Wales, England, and Ireland through our play and learning. The children enjoyed a London-themed tuff tray, took part in some Irish dancing, and even tasted delicious Welsh cakes kindly brought in by Inara to share at snack time.
NURSERY - Stay and Play
We are absolutely delighted that so many parents and grandparents joined us for our Stay and Play sessions in Nursery - what a wonderful time we all had! It was lovely to see you exploring the learning environment alongside your children and to watch how they learn through play and fun, educational activities.
A huge thank you for coming and sharing in their learning - these special sessions are something we will continue each term and we can’t wait to welcome you back to the next one!

Reception
This week, Reception enjoyed learning about Pirates! For Welly Wednesday this week, we went on a frosty, pirate, winter treasure hunt! We had to help Captain Frostbeard find a variety of things such as something smooth, something rough and something cold. We all had lots of fun and showed excellent determination and team work to find the winter treasures!

Form 2
This week, Form 2 have continued to learn about money in their maths lessons and making different amounts using a variety of coins and notes. The children thoroughly enjoyed going ‘shopping’ and searched for items in a local supermarket magazine that they would like to purchase and then had to choose the correct amount of coins and notes to use to make their purchases. Form 2 have loved being shopkeepers and customers this week and have enjoyed getting a real hands-on experience of using coins and notes.

Form 4
Form 4 have been enjoying their new computing topic Physical Computing which is designed to give children a basic understanding of the BBC micro:bit and how it can be used to create simple programs that interact with the physical world. Our end goal is to create a virtual band. So far, we have been experimenting with music blocks, loops and logic blocks.
