Weekly Newsletter

Dear Parents,

I hope you are well and have all had a good week.

I am delighted to begin by sharing some truly wonderful, inspiring  news from the weekend. Isabella, along with Meghan and Seb, competed at the National ISA Cross Country Championships in Birmingham. Not only was it wonderful that the parents took the time out of their weekend to make the journey but for all the children to perform to such an exceptional standard was truly outstanding. A special huge well done to our NATIONAL CHAMPION, Isabella! What an extraordinary achievement. To become a national champion is a remarkable accomplishment and reflects tremendous dedication, resilience and hard work. We are incredibly proud of her and to all of the children. To reach and perform at a national level is a fantastic achievement in itself. Congratulations for all that you have achieved and for being superb ambassadors for our school.

On Tuesday, Form 2 enjoyed a fantastic trip to Danbury for their Forest School activities. The children thoroughly embraced every opportunity to explore, build, problem solve and learn outdoors. It was wonderful to see their confidence and teamwork build throughout the day. I think by the end of the day the children (and teachers!) were shattered! A brilliant, fun day was had by all.

Yesterday, we celebrated World Book Day in true Maldon Court style. The theme this year was Bedtime Stories, and it was brilliant to see the whole school community arriving in pyjamas and slippers. Our Form 6 children did a fantastic job reading to the other classes in the hall. We were also very fortunate to welcome Mrs Jenny Burrett from our Board of Visitors. Dressed as Gangsta Granny, she has us all in stiches reading The Book With No Pictures. It was a true highlight of the day and a lovely reminder of the magic that reading stories bring to the children. Please check the school’s social media feeds for additional videos.

Adding to the excitement, the children enjoyed a special ‘Rise and Shine’ themed lunch. They were treated to pancakes with bacon, sausages and maple syrup -  a real  feast! This was followed by the most delicious cupcakes. It was such a lovely lunch for the children and created a wonderful sense of occasion across the school.

This week also marks National Offer Day for our Form 6 children. I could not be prouder of their achievements. The offers and Independent School scholarships they have received are much deserved and reflect the  years of commitment and effort that the children put into school life here at Maldon Court. As our ISI report stated, each child leaves us exceptionally well prepared for the next stage of their education. The children will be a credit to whichever senior school they choose to attend.

Congratulations to Mitchell who won the Headteacher’s Award for his fantastic effort and achievement in all subjects. Congratulations to Sebastian A who was presented with a Bravery Award.

Finally, you will find that you will have your child’s report today. As a school, we take huge pride in the care, hard work and personalisation we put into the reports and we know how much it is appreciated. Please do enjoy reading about the children. They have worked so hard. Thank you to the teachers for their continued commitment to the children in their class.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend,

Mrs Mason

World Book Day Photographs

Nursery

Nursery have thoroughly enjoyed the second part of our Jungle Animals topic this week. We explored the story The Jungle Book, the children loved re-enacting the story, playing different characters and acting it out together.

This linked perfectly with World Book Day on Thursday, when we continued exploring the story. The children had fun acting out being jungle animals both outside and in the role-play zone, all while wearing their pyjamas for our Bedtime Stories theme!

Our role-play jungle was full of adventure, with a map for the children to follow as they crossed rivers and obstacles to find treasure. It was an exciting and engaging week of story, play and imagination!

Form 2

Form 2 enjoyed a fantastic day out to Danbury Country Park this week. We embarked on a Habitat day to consolidate our Science topic ‘Our local environment’. To begin our day, we went on a minibeast hunt and found spiders, woodlice, millipedes, centipedes and lots of worms! We discussed how trees can be habitats for many creatures and learnt 2 new words; evergreen and deciduous. Before lunch, we used nature to make crafts using rocks to press the colour from grass and leaves onto fabric - this was great fun and you can find our works of art hanging in our classroom! After a lovely lunch in the sunshine, we built homes for a range of woodland creatures - the children were brilliant at this! We had some luxurious creations! Finally, we were extremely excited to have a go at pond dipping…and no one fell in! Well done Form 2 for a wonderful day in nature and how lucky we were to have glorious sunshine, too!

Form 4

Form 4 has had a very busy and productive few weeks. They have impressed Mrs. Baron with some fantastic PowerPoints and posters about water; the water cycle, sewage, wave power, desalination and so much more. They have started a new DT project about greenhouses and investigated stable structures and in science they have been observing the changes to eggs submerged in different everyday drinks and liquids. Let’s just say, they will be brushing their teeth a little longer and more thoroughly from now on- no more sucking the toothpaste straight from the tube to fool their mums and dads anymore!

ISA National Cross Country Finals

Isabella - ISA National Cross County Champion

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Isabella is the ISA National Cross Country Champion!

In a masterclass of racing yesterday, she fought off 62 competitors from across the country to take the title. She was presented with her medal by Great Britain's 800m runner, Alex Bell. We couldn't be more proud of Isabella - our Head Girl and an absolute inspiration to all the children at our school.

Seb and Meghan also ran in the nationals yesterday, with Seb finishing 11th and just 8 seconds off of a medal. Meghan fought her way back after a fall to finish just 45 seconds off the medals. Meghan, in Year 5, was running in the Year 5/6 race.

Behind these fantastic results lie years of dedication to sport, with all three of our national runners competing again today in various events. They truly are inspirational!

Form 5/6 Netball

Today our Form 5/6 Netball team visited Elm Green School for a friendly fixture. We are so proud of these girls; they have really come together as a team in the last two weeks. They didn’t hesitate in taking up the opportunity to play another school despite this term’s PE focusing on hockey, rugby and gymnastics and only forming our netball team in the last two weeks. In a thrilling encounter of quality netball, the match ended in a 11-11 draw. Well done girls, you were fantastic.
