Weekly Newsletter

Dear Parents,

I hope that you have had a lovely week and that all the mums had a wonderful Mothers’ Day. Thank you to FOMCS for the fantastic pop up shop, it is much appreciated by everyone and was a resounding success.

This week, our Form 5 and 6 children took part in the Life Support Roadshow. This is an incredibly important morning where the children learn vital first aid techniques including CPR, how to use a defibrillator, calling the emergency services and also basic first aid. The children were really keen to learn and listened carefully throughout the sessions. Well done.

On Tuesday, we invited in our Form 1 parents for a ‘Celebration and Coffee morning’. This was a new event that we trialled last year and was so successful that we continued it again this year. Parents had the most delicious bacon rolls and cookies to eat whilst waiting for the children to arrive with their huge pile of books! The children thoroughly enjoyed showing their parents all of their hard work across the curriculum. It is evident just much they have achieved so far in Form 1 and the quality of their work is exceptional. The children should be rightfully proud of all of their beautiful books. Thank you to Miss Vaughan and Mrs Fowden for a lovely morning and for everything they do on a daily basis.

We continued with our full diary of sporting events this week and on Wednesday we took part in the KS2 Cross Country competition at St Francis. Our children ran with determination and speed in what is always a tough course with lots of slopes to contend with. All the children were a credit to Maldon Court and we returned with lots of winners medals. Thank you to all the parents who came to support and cheer on the children. It is always much appreciated by the children and the staff.

On Thursday our Form 1 children went on their school trip to Chelmsford which involved going to Pizza Express! This linked in to their DT curriculum where they learnt how to make pizzas, how to weigh and measure and most importantly how to make them delicious enough to eat! It also linked into their Geography curriculum as they did a walking tour of the town and the parks and compared it to Maldon. To finish, the children enjoyed a wonderful picnic lunch in the park. This was a fantastic new trip which everyone loved – especially getting to eat all of the delicious pizza at the end! More information about this is further on in the newsletter.

Well done to Felicity in Pre -Reception who was presented with a Bravery award in Celebration assembly.

Finally, we look forward to welcoming you to Parents Evening next week, whether it be face to face or online. The meetings are 10 minutes; however if you need any extra time with teachers, please do contact them and this can be arranged for a mutually convenient time. Please see the previous ParentMail regarding locations of your child’s class for Parents Evening.

Have a lovely weekend,

Nursery

This week Nursery have continued exploring our Science topic. The children have enjoyed taking part in lots of different experiments and discussing what they observed. We explored colours and mixing through fun activities with food colouring and water, as well as a skittles and water experiment that the children loved.

Our role-play zone became a Science Lab, where the children acted as mini scientists, using coloured bricks and sensory toys to create their own fun experiments.

We have also been planting and smelling herbs. The children helped to plant a lovely herb pot including mint, coriander and rosemary, which they will enjoy caring for and smelling while spending time in our outside classroom.

RECEPTION

This week in Maths, we have been exploring number bonds to 10 and developing our understanding of how numbers can be combined in different ways. We linked this to our minibeasts topic by adding 10 spots to a ladybird and arranging them to discover different combinations that make 10. Throughout our minibeast topic, we have been learning about different types of insects. This week, we have been learning about ladybirds and bumblebees. We created beautiful bumblebee pictures and painted some bubble wrap to create a beehive.

Form 1

Form 1 had a fantastic trip on Thursday where we began the day with a visit to Pizza Express. Everyone had the chance to create their own delicious margherita pizzas. We learnt more about pizza dough and the different ingredients included with making a pizza. The chef then gave the children a quiz which they did very well at while we waited for our pizzas to cook! Once we were loaded up with 11 pizza boxes, we headed off to a local park to make the most of the beautiful weather. We had so much fun playing different games in the park, running around and enjoying the fresh air. Our tummies had waited long enough to then try the delicious pizzas we made, so we settled down together for a lovely picnic. It was a wonderful opportunity to relax, enjoy the sunshine and be outside the classroom. Well done Form 1, what lovely memories were made together!

FORM 2

This week, Form 2 have been exploring length and height as part of their Maths ‘Measurement’ unit. The children thoroughly enjoyed estimating and constructing different lengths using multi-link cubes, as well as measuring a variety of objects around the classroom. They worked hard to use mathematical language to compare objects and ordering them by size. Well done, Form 2.

Mrs Caldow and Miss Broadbridge

FORM 4

In computing, Form 4 has been creating some fantastic Stop Motion films. They have really enjoyed creating scenes and using their imagination. Mrs. Baron has been so impressed with their patience and skills.

In science, they have been looking at the digestive system. They placed the organs onto an outline of their own bodies and then they had a lovely lesson recreating the processes needed for digestion.

Mrs Baron

FORM 5

Form 5 welcomed the Maldon and Essex Life Support Roadshow back to school for another fantastic and informative session. The children learned how to carry out CPR safely, remembering to complete 30 compressions to the beat of the song “Staying Alive.” They also practised using defibrillators and learned how to carefully place a patient into the recovery position.

The class listened intently as they were introduced to the latest updated life-saving techniques and asked thoughtful questions throughout the session. Their behaviour was brilliant and they represented the school wonderfully while learning such important skills that could one day help save a life.
