Weekly Newsletter

Dear Parents,

It is hard to think that this is the final day of the Spring term. Only one more term until the summer holidays and the children move on to their new classes and Form 6 move on to their new schools. How time flies. It has been a wonderful term with so many excellent opportunities provided for all of the children.

I would like to thank you all for attending Parents’ Evening this week. We offer both face to face and online appointments so that parents can pick what suits them best. The uptake on these evenings are always at capacity and it is fantastic to see the support we have from you all. I hope that you enjoyed speaking to the teachers and viewing your child’s  books.

On Tuesday, our Form 3 children enjoyed a brilliant trip to Abberton Reservoir. This is always a very popular outdoor trip where the children focus on discovering wildlife and getting involved with the outdoor environment, all linked in to the Form 3 curriculum.

To round off the term in true Maldon Court style, we hosted our ever popular sell out Easter Parade assembly. This is always a lovely morning where the children parade around the hall with their fantastic creations. The amount of effort that the children put into these is phenomenal and it is a pleasure to see all of them. The children are clearly proud of their hard work and it is a fun, happy way to end the term. I’m just pleased that I didn’t have to choose the winners!! This year, Mrs Guest had the task of judging and it certainly wasn’t made easy for her. Well done to all children who entered. You all looked fantastic. A special well done to the winners of each class as listed below.

Finally, I would like to wish you all a lovely Easter holidays. Have a lovely time with your friends and family and I will see you all on Tuesday 14th April in full summer uniform including boaters, caps and blazers.

SING UP DAY

Maldon Court took part in Sing Up day this week.  The day is to celebrate the joy of singing but we also had an assembly to discuss the lyrics in the song – which is all about resilience.  The children sang beautifully and we are so proud of their enthusiasm. Well done everyone!

BOOKMARK COMPETITON

On World Book Day, the children all designed some beautiful bookmarks for a competition that was run by Maldon Books in the high street. Olivia from Maldon Books joined us in assembly last Friday to announce the winners and what an incredibly hard job she had. Everyone made such a fantastic effort! The overall prize went to Olivia in Form 5. She won a book voucher and her design will be made into bookmarks that will be distributed in the shop. Olivia was so impressed with all of the designs that she will be hanging them all up in the shop so please go in and have a look. Well done everyone..

Nursery

This week the Nursery children have enjoyed exploring the topic of Spring and Easter. We have continued looking after the plants and flowers in our outside classroom and have been discussing the changes in the season.

In the role play zone, the children enjoyed pretending to buy and sell items in our Easter shop, with chocolate, cakes and lots of goodies! Our tuff trays included Easter egg decorating, where the children added eyes, noses and hair to their egg shapes, as well as a fun hide-and-seek Easter tray.

The children also created beautiful spring flower pictures by dipping bottles into paint and printing with them. Throughout the week, the children enjoyed an Easter Egg Hunt, collecting eggs and celebrating with their friends.

Alongside this, we also explored Passover, the children enjoyed tasting some matzah bread at snack time, kindly brought in by their friend George to share.

PRE-RECEPTION

Pre-Reception have really enjoyed our ‘On the Farm’ topic, to extend this as optional homework the children were tasked with making their own farmyard scene, these were then judged by Mrs Wilkins. There were so many fantastic farmyards, and the decision was incredibly hard. Thank you to all the wonderful creations, I can tell lots of time and effort went into every single one.

Well done to our two winners Arlo and Persephany.

Form 1

Form 1 have had a very busy week in maths, as they explored the concept of mass. The children have been learning how to measure and compare how heavy different objects are. On Tuesday we completed a fun investigation using cubes to weigh a variety of classroom items. The children worked carefully to estimate and then measure, comparing results and discussing which objects were heavier or lighter. The children decided to weigh their snack pots and we discovered that they were extremely heavy compared to many other classroom objects!

Well done, Form 1, fantastic effort in maths this week.

FORM 3

Form 3 had a fabulous trip to Abberton Reservoir this week. The theme for our trip was ‘rocks, soils and fossils’. We started our trip by examining some amazing fossils that had been found locally in Clacton- including some bones and teeth from a woolly mammoth. We made our own fossils with plaster of paris, play-doh and seashells. We then embarked on a walk around the nature reserve and carried out some investigations to work out whether our chosen rocks were sedimentary, metamorphic or igneous rocks. Our afternoon involved getting a little muddy, as we dug into the soil at Abberton and carried out various tests to discover what type of soil can be found there. We even had time for a bug hunt to find out which creatures live in the soil- we were especially excited to find some newts and even a lizard!

FORM 5

During our Art unit this term, Form 5 have been using clay to make pots in the style of Ancient Greece, we have been painting them this week and the children will bring them home after the Easter break.
