Weekly Newsletter

Dear Parents,

What an amazing week we have had. The school hasn’t felt the same without our wonderful Form 6 children being here. However, they have had the most fantastic time at their PGL residential trip to Bawdsey Manor. They were accompanied by Mr Coyle and Mrs Summers. Thank you to both teachers who gave up their time with their families to ensure the children had the opportunity to make wonderful memories. Activities the children completed included zip wires, Jacob’s ladder, fencing, canoeing, archery and orienteering to name but a few. I have heard that the food has been excellent too and the children loved it all. Form 5 have thoroughly enjoyed being ‘top of the school’ for the week. This included sitting on the benches in assemblies! They have been great ambassadors for Maldon Court whilst doing tours of the school for prospective parents. Well done, Form 5.

Form 4 excelled at their class assembly on Thursday. Thank you to the parents and grandparents who came to watch and support the children.

I enjoyed a super Lunch with the Head with Arthur, Lennie, Lachlan and Zeian this week. It is a very special and enjoyable time where I get to have fantastic chats with the children throughout the year.

Congratulations to Beatrice in Reception who was awarded the Headteacher’s Award this week for her excellent attitude to school and producing fantastic work. Well done, Bea.

Finally, I look forward to seeing lots of KS2 parents and grandparents at the annual Maldon Court swimming gala next week. It is always such a great afternoon with lots of cheering for the children and their houses. I wonder what house will win this year!

Nursery

This week Nursery have been travelling towards the Sun and the first stop was Venus. We had lots of fun serving food in the Venus Café, including Venus Volcano Pasta and Solar Soup! We discussed how Venus is a hot, cloudy and dusty planet. In our tuff trays, the children explored other planets and talked about the different temperatures and what items or environments might be found there. During physical time, we pretended to be planets moving through space and also enjoyed creating a large planet together using the parachute.

RECEPTION

This week, Reception have been learning about famous astronauts and space explorers. We learnt about Neil Armstrong, Tim Peake, and Valentina Tereshkova. We were fascinated listening to stories about their missions into space. We thought of some questions that we would like to ask them. We thought of some very interesting questions, such as, “How long did it take to get to the moon?”, “Are there any aliens in space?”, and “How did you sleep in space?”. We had some lovely discussions, and the children said that they would like to visit space one day!

RECEPTION and Form 1 Road Safety

This week, our Reception and Form 1 children took part in an engaging road safety session delivered by the Safer Essex Roads Partnership. The children, with their parents, enjoyed a practical activity using a large-scale road and pavement mat. This helped them learn:

  •  We must hold hands with a grown-up near roads.

  • The importance of staying safe around traffic learning to Stop, Look, Listen, Think!

Parents can further support their learning by:

  • Modelling safe habits when walking near roads

  • Holding hands with younger children

  • Talking about road safety in everyday situations

Together, we can help keep our children safe on the roads. For more information and free resources, visit: www.saferessexroads.org

FORMS 3 and 4 Cooking

In DT, both classes have been looking at seasonal foods and the pros and cons of supermarkets selling foods all year round and the costs to the consumer and to the environment. We then made some lovely cakes using ‘grains’ that can be grown and sourced locally. We also took the opportunity to bake using gluten free flour, just as tasty. A huge thank you must go to Mrs. Longhurst for all the preparation, baking and washing up. We could not do it without her.

FORM 5

The children in Form 5 took part in a very important and informative road safety session led by Essex Safer Roads. The instructor was extremely impressed by the children’s excellent knowledge and confidence when discussing how to stay safe on and around roads.

As part of the session, the children enjoyed a walk into town where they demonstrated safe and sensible road-crossing skills. They also explored the concept of braking distances, discussing how long it takes for a car to stop and measuring the distances themselves to deepen their understanding.

The children were exceptionally well behaved throughout the visit and represented the school brilliantly. They listened carefully, answered questions thoughtfully and engaged enthusiastically in all the activities. Well done, Form 5.
