Weekly Newsletter

Dear Parents,

I hope that you are all well and enjoying the lovely sunshine this week. We have had another busy and exciting week at Maldon Court. We were delighted to welcome the RNLI into school, who delivered an informative assembly for the children. The children enjoyed learning about the valuable work carried out by the lifeboat crews, as well as the importance of staying safe in and around water. This is especially important given how close we are to the river.

Well done to our Reception children for their fantastic cake sale this week. The event was, as always, extremely popular, and thank you to everyone who contributed and supported it.

Finally, I would like to wish our wonderful Form 6 children all the very best as they head off next week to PGL for what promises to be a fun and memorable experience. Thank you to Mrs Summers and Mr Coyle for giving up their time to accompany the children on the trip. I look forward to hearing all about their adventures throughout the week!

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Nursery

This week Nursery have finally reached their destination - the Moon! In our role play area, the rocket landed on the Moon and the children enjoyed spending time in the Moon Café, where they served and ate Galaxy Juice and Planet Pizza. The children worked together to serve food and used special star coins to “pay” for their meals.

In our tuff trays, the children explored a Moon-themed area made from foil and different textures to represent the surface of the Moon and Moon rocks.

During physical time, we pretended we were on the Moon and moved slowly with large, exaggerated movements to represent low gravity. It was a fun and imaginative week continuing our space learning!

PRE-RECEPTION

We continue having lots of fun with the whole school space topic, this week we have been looking at Rockets. Pre-Reception worked super hard to create their own name rocket, ordering letters in their name from memory to create their rocket. Amazing to see how many children knew the order of their name which then created these fantastic pieces of work, great work Pre-Reception!

FORMs 1 and 2

Forms 1 and 2 demonstrated excellent creativity during this week’s Art lesson. The children were set the task of designing and decorating an alien spaceship using their own handprints as the base. They approached the activity with great enthusiasm, making use of a wide variety of materials, including foil, pipe cleaners, crepe paper, and sequins to personalise their designs. Mrs Caldow and I were extremely impressed with the outcome, where each child was able to showcase both their imagination and individuality. It is clear that there is a great deal of artistic talent within KS1. Well done everyone!

FORM 3

Form 3 have been loving space-themed art activities recently. They have been working very hard to create a new classroom display- it’s bright, colourful and full of creative glimpses into different worlds as an astronaut falls through them! The children have also used water colour to design their own planets in an imaginary solar system. I am extremely impressed with how the children’s art skills have progressed throughout the year. Well done Form 3 - thank you for the beautiful new display!

Form 5 Space adventure!

We wanted to understand the sizes of the planets and the distances between them. We compared the sizes of the planets using fruit for scale! A peppercorn represented the smallest planet, Mercury, all the way up to a watermelon representing the largest, Jupiter. We calculated the distances between the planets using Astronomical Units (au) and carefully scaled this up to give us an understanding of how far apart the planets are. Using a space rocket (borrowed from Reception class) we then went on a journey from the sun all the way to Neptune!
