Dear Parents,
Welcome back to the second half of the Summer term and I hope you all enjoyed a lovely half term break. It has been wonderful to see the children return to school so positively, ready for what will be a very exciting and busy few weeks ahead.
The highlight of the week was Grandparents’ Day yesterday, which is always such a special occasion in the school calendar and one of my personal favourites. I love to see the relationships that the grandparents have with the children – it really is so special. The children performed exceptionally well and were a credit to everyone. The grandparents were treated to choir performances, choral verse and then poetry from Form 6. In addition, all children sang class songs too. We were delighted to also include traditional maypole dancing as part of the celebrations, despite the inclement weather. A truly special day. Thank you to all the grandparents for making the time to come along to watch the children and to make it a wonderful day. The Pimms, shortbreads and strawberries were also a welcome addition. Thank you to Mrs Longhurst for organising this and FOMCS for helping to serve.
Our Form 6 children have taken part in Crucial Crew this week too. It is always a great experience where they gain valuable life skills and practical safety knowledge, and next week we will be hosting a Summer Safety Assembly to reinforce this across the school.
I would also like to say a huge well done to Meghan Knight. We are so proud of her for being selected to represent the school at the ISA National Athletic Finals next week – a wonderful achievement, and we wish her the very best of luck. I look forward to hearing all about it.
Finally, it is the 70th anniversary of Maldon Court next month and we are celebrating in style with a whole school picnic, each class celebrating a different decade and also doing a time capsule. Further details to follow soon, including some lovely 70th anniversary commemorative teddy bears that FOMCS have sourced. These will be on sale shortly. This is a lovely occasion to celebrate and we are all really looking forward to it.

Nursery
Nursery have had a lovely first week back. We have been sharing our news from half term during morning welcome time each day. The children are so confident to stand up and talk about their news with their friends, discussing days out, holidays and special family events they enjoyed over the half term.
Our first topic this half term is Night and Day. We have been focusing on daytime and our morning routines. The children have been sharing their routines and discussing the importance of looking after our teeth.
In the role play area, we have reached the Sun, the children have enjoyed role-playing “days out and holidays” in the sunshine, including making summer drinks and enjoying yellow coloured foods.

RECEPTION
In Reception this week, we have been learning about the story, How to Catch a Star by Oliver Jeffers. For Welly Wednesday this week, we worked in teams to make a star of our very own. We used leaves, twigs, sticks and grass to make our beautiful stars. We also learned about star constellations and decorated constellations based on our star signs

FORMS 1 and 2
Form 1 and Form 2 had an exciting Design and Technology Day, where they were challenged to design and build a rocket using only junk and recycled materials. Working creatively, the children followed a success criteria checklist and were encouraged to think carefully about how to make their rockets both functional and eye-catching.
To add an extra level of challenge, they were then tasked with including a moving part in their design. From spinning fins and opening rocket doors to rotating astronauts, the children demonstrated incredible imagination and problem-solving skills throughout the day.
The results were truly amazing! Every rocket was unique, showcasing their creativity, teamwork, and engineering skills. We were incredibly impressed by the enthusiasm and determination shown by all the children, and the finished rockets were out of this world!

FORM 4
This week, Form 4 has once again impressed Mrs. Baron with new skills honed over the half term break. Many children tried their hand at baking; we got to try some home-made corn bread, brownies, flapjacks and a chocolate cake (I did try to get a picture of the class enjoying the cake, but it had been devoured by the time I cut the last slice!). We had a master class in tying knots, finger knitting, friendship bracelets, sign language and making loom bands and we also got to see some lovely crochet work and intricate Airfix models. We also enjoyed photographs and videos of scooter stunts, standing on top of a pony, how to do a sit-spin when ice-skating, how to play water polo and PowerPoint presentations about Maldon cricket club and learning to scuba dive. Who says homework is boring!

Form 6
On Wednesday morning Form 6 attended the crucial crew event at Maldon Fire Station. The children took part in three activities. The first reinforced children’s understanding about staying safe online. The second made the children think about the role that everyone needs to play in keeping our public areas safe and pleasant for everyone to use. The final activity was run by the police and taught the children about how vulnerable members of the community such as children could be exploited by county lines drug dealers. The children enjoyed the sessions and made lots of good contributions to the discussions.
