Weekly Newsletter

Dear Parents,

What a wonderful, sunny end to the week. I hope you all enjoy a lovely weekend in the sunshine.

This week, we have been delighted to welcome a number of newly hatched chicks to Maldon Court. Their arrival, courtesy of the Hull family, has created a huge amount of excitement throughout the school, with everyone enjoying the opportunity to observe them closely and watch them hatch. I even had a chick in my office too  -  with the help of Zoe guiding me to hold the chick properly!

On Wednesday, Form 2 presented an absolutely super class assembly on the topic of space. They were fantastic, sharing their learning with parents, staff and the rest of the school. They really were exceptional and it was clear how much they enjoyed their topic. We certainly had some amazing actors and actresses. It was a pleasure to see and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thank you to our parents who have run our Father's Day Pop-Up Shop, providing the children with the opportunity to purchase a lovely, thoughtful gift for their daddies and grandads The gifts were amazing – I hope you all enjoy them on Sunday.

Congratulations to Meghan, Emily and Eli  for winning the Headteacher’s award this week.

Finally, I look forward to seeing you all at Sports Day on Friday. I hope you all have a brilliant day and cheer on your children and their house!

Nursery

Nursery have had a lovely, busy and fun week! We have been exploring the second part of our Night and Day topic and focusing on night-time routines. We have been discussing how we prepare for bedtime, including having a bath, brushing our teeth, sharing a bedtime story and enjoying cuddles with our parents and teddies before settling down to sleep.

The role play area became a home, complete with a bedroom, kitchen and dining area. The children enjoyed sharing stories, pretending to go to sleep and then waking up to enjoy breakfast together, sparking lots of conversations about what we like to eat first thing in the morning.

We also enjoyed our Stay and Play sessions this week. The children were very excited to share their Nursery with the family members who came along and loved showing them some of their favourite activities and learning experiences.

PRE-RECEPTION

Pre-Reception have been working very hard in their phonics sessions this week, they have been practising blending CVC words. Using the playdoh stamps, the children stamped out each letter of a CVC word then had a try at decoding the word phonetically.

Linking with our whole school space topic, this week the children have also enjoyed making their own telescopes, using their imagination to assemble recycling into their creations and decorating with many arts and crafts, lots of fantastic telescopes were made!

RECEPTION

Reception had a wonderful morning on Thursday with their Daddies and Grandads for our Father’s Day Morning. The children sang ‘The Sun Has Got His Hat On’, recited a poem called ‘Family Means Love’ by Sophie Pickles, and read out why they love our Daddies. They were so confident! The children then spent time with their Daddies and Grandads and decorated biscuits, coloured in pictures, did puzzles and played. Thank you to all the Daddies and Grandads for sharing the morning with us, it was a fantastic morning.

FORM 1

You may have heard that Form 1 have had some very special visitors this week, a group of adorable chicks! It has been a wonderful experience watching them hatch and learning all about their early days of life. A big thank you goes to our chick expert, Zoe, who answered all our questions and helped us understand the chicks' fascinating journey. We learnt that chicks develop inside their eggs for 21 days before hatching. We were amazed to discover how they use their tiny beaks to peck their way out of the egg when they are ready to emerge. It has been a very memorable hands-on experience that has given everyone in Form 1 the chance to meet some very cute new friends!

Form 3

Form 3 enjoyed the sunshine on Wednesday afternoon as they took part in a rocket-making competition! For our science lesson, the children were tasked with creating a rocket, but they were only allowed to use 4 pieces of A4 paper and cellotape. We discovered that the best rockets had a pointed tip to help them cut through the air and we had to be careful about balancing weight throughout the design. Well done Form 3.

FORM 5 - CHICKS

The children in Form 5 have had a wonderful couple of weeks experiencing the magic of watching our fluffy chicks hatch and grow. There has been great excitement each day as the children checked on their progress and learned more about these adorable new arrivals.

A huge thank you to Mrs Hull for providing all the equipment and giving the whole school the opportunity to enjoy this special experience. We would also like to say a massive thank you to Zoe, who has been visiting classes and allowing children to carefully hold the chicks and see them up close. Her enthusiasm and knowledge has helped make the experience even more memorable.

The chicks have certainly captured our hearts, and there will be some very sad faces when they leave next week. We will all miss them dearly.

FORM 5 - SCIENCE

During our Science unit on Material, Form 5 investigated which materials were soluble and which materials were insoluble. A range of substances were used and the children had to make predictions prior to carrying out the investigation. They also considered what other factors might affect this process such as temperature and water.
