Dear Parents,
This week, we have been delighted to celebrate a very special milestone in the life of our school – our 70th Anniversary. It has been a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the history of the school and to celebrate the decades of memories, achievements and community spirit that makes us the school we are today. This anniversary is not only a celebration of our past, but also of our future. We are incredibly proud of all that has been achieved over the past 70 years and look forward with excitement to the many years ahead.
The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the different decades, exploring how school life has evolved over time whilst recognising the traditions that remain at the heart of our community. As part of these celebrations, we marked the occasion by burying a time capsule, filled with memories and mementos from the children, to be discovered by future generations. This was followed by a whole school assembly where the children presented what they had learnt about their decades. It was such fun and the children really enjoyed it. One of the highlights of our celebrations was capturing a spectacular whole-school drone video, bringing everyone together to mark this historic moment in a truly memorable way. Click on the video above.
Forms 4, 5 and 6 also enjoyed a fantastic visit to the Essex Food and Farming Day on Tuesday, where they took part in a wide range of hands-on activities designed to educate them about farming and the countryside. From meeting livestock to learning about where our food comes from, the day was filled with experiences that encouraged the children to appreciate the important role that agriculture plays in our daily lives.
No summer term would be complete without a little fun Maldon Court style! Thanks to the warm weather, the children were delighted to enjoy a lunchtime ‘slip and slide’ activity with Mr Coyle. There was so much laughter as everyone loved the opportunity to cool off and make happy memories together. Even the teachers and me got soaked!
Finally, I look forward to welcoming you to Sports Day on Monday. I am pleased that Maldon Court has remained open but also that clear and decisive decisions have been made to look after the staff and children in this weather -including ice lollies!
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Nursery
Nursery have had a busy, fun-filled week. On Monday, we joined with our friends in Pre-Reception to enjoy a day of celebrations for Maldon Court’s 70th Birthday. It was lovely to spend time together and we were very proud of the children who took part in the whole-school assembly, representing our chosen decade, the 2020s. We have also enjoyed some water fun this week, taking part in our very own splash park activities with lots of splashing and water games to help us keep cool. On Wednesday, we had a pirate-themed day linked to our story Intergalactic Ed and the Space Pirates. The children and adults all dressed as pirates for the day. We sailed to space in our role play spaceship, hunted for treasure and enjoyed pirate food! For physical development, we walked the plank and climbed the rigging on our pirate ship.

Form 2
Form 2 enjoyed a wonderful birthday celebration for Maldon Court on Monday! We worked hard to make a quilt for the time capsule where we drew ourselves and thought of an adjective to describe our lovely school.
We spent some time listening to music of the 90s including Take That and The Spice Girls (Mrs Caldow was in her element!)
Finally, we looked at technology of the 90s such as floppy discs and cassette tapes and tried to guess what they were for!
We loved playing the old fashioned games in the afternoon too!
We had a wonderful day!

FORM 4
Form 4 was thrilled to have a visit from Mrs. Fawkes (nee. Maynard) to talk about Maldon Court in the 70’s when she was a pupil. We were surprised to hear that the fitness trail was once a swimming pool, PE took place on a field just off Beeleigh Road, which was a challenge because of the slope, and assemblies and dance took place in the house opposite the school which was once the Royal British Legion Hall. There were no computers, a school dog named Bonnie and a favourite lunch called ‘Poison Pie’! Thank you Mrs. Fawkes for giving up your time to reminisce and share with us how much you loved being at Maldon Court School.

FORMS 4, 5 and 6 - ESSEX FOOD AND FARMING
On Tuesday the children in forms 4,5 and 6 had a very enjoyable if hot trip to the Essex Food and Farming event in Writtle. The children learned about the crop growing cycle from seed to harvesting and had a chance to see the heavy machinery working. They enjoyed visiting the different marquees which included countryside protection and STEM, livestock, crops and conservation stalls. As usual the sheep show provided great entertainment- who doesn’t enjoy a dancing sheep? The children had fun collecting lots of badges, vegetables and miscellaneous items throughout the day. They behaved impeccably, asked lots of questions and were very sensible staying hydrated and wearing their hats.
