Weekly Newsletter

Dear Parents,

It has been another wonderfully busy and successful week at Maldon Court, highlighted by our fantastic Sports Day on Monday. Thank you for your patience with the day being rearranged but at least we didn’t have to cancel it entirely.  From Nursery through to Form 6, all the children demonstrated brilliant enthusiasm, determination and sportsmanship throughout the day. Of course, it is always a very special day for Form 6 and their parents, a highlight being the Form 6 Parade at the end and the house shuttle relays. Thank you to all the staff who helped with the day. It runs like clockwork due to the preparation beforehand so thank you. Of course, the biggest thank you to our children who performed amazingly as always.

In addition to our own Sports Day, we were extremely proud of our children who represented Maldon Court at District Sports on Tuesday held at Thurstable School. Our school team performed exceptionally well, demonstrating both skill and determination against strong competition from other schools. Their conduct, teamwork and commitment were exemplary and they achieved some excellent results across a range of events. Congratulations to all children who took part and for all the events that you won. I am so proud of each and every one of you.

We were also delighted to host a Teddy Bears’ Picnic for our Nursery children and their parents yesterday. This was a special occasion, with families enjoying a range of activities alongside refreshments in the school hall. The event provided a lovely opportunity for our youngest children to share their school experience with their families. Thank you to all the nursery staff for making it such a special morning.

A reminder that the second reports of the year are being sent home today in bags. I hope you enjoy reading them.

Finally, thank you for all the numerous well wishes I have received; it truly means so much. I look forward to seeing many of you at the Soiree this evening. It is the first time we have done this in many, many years so hopefully it will be a fun, successful evening. Good luck to our children who are competing at Drapers Farm at the District cricket competition too this evening. You can do it!

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Mason

Nursery

Nursery have had another lovely week! We all enjoyed Sports Day on Monday. The children were super-fast and very confident as they took part in their races. Well done, Nursery! On Tuesday, we joined with Pre-Reception and Reception to complete a collaborative art display. Together, we filled a giant rocket, chalked onto the playground, with the silver coins the children had kindly brought in. It was lovely to work together to create such a special piece of artwork. On Wednesday, we were excited to release our three butterflies that had hatched from their chrysalises earlier in the week. The children loved watching them fly away after caring for them so well. Thursday was our Teddy Bears' Picnic, we had a wonderful morning with our friends, families and teddy bears. We enjoyed lots of fun activities together, as well as a special teddy-shaped cookie and a drink. To finish the week, we have enjoyed creating our own Teddy Bears' Picnic in Nursery together through imaginative play.

PRE-RECEPTION

This week in Pre-Reception the children have enjoyed lots of summer fun filled tuff trays, a bubble tray, ice cream station and fine motor ice creams.

Whilst engaging in the bubble tray, the children were fascinated when the bubble came up over them and then popped. Great fun had by all.

FORM 1

This week, Form 1 have been busy learning all about money. They have enjoyed recognising coins, counting money and talking about how we use it in everyday life. To put their new skills into practise, the children visited Miss Vaughan's Tuck Shop, where they had the opportunity to buy a snack. They loved this activity, counting out the correct coins and making sure they were not a penny short! Well done Form 1, for all your hard work and excellent money skills!

FORM 3

Form 3 are learning all about shapes in their current maths unit. In one of our lessons this week, we discussed how 3D shapes can be broken apart to create a flat net. This helped us to understand how these shapes are constructed. The children were then given the task of making their own cubes and triangular prisms using the corresponding paper nets- this was very fiddly, but the children did a great job! We then further explored 3D shape construction using Polydron.

FORM 5

Form 5 have been amazing us with their maze-ing coding skills this half term!

In Computing, the children have been developing their coding skills by creating exciting maze games using Scratch. They have made a fantastic start, designing games with three increasingly challenging levels, complete with heroes, enemies and creative backdrops.

The class has embraced the challenge of using algorithms to bring their ideas to life, solving problems and debugging their code along the way. It has been wonderful to see their creativity, resilience, and logical thinking shine as they build their own brilliant interactive games.
