Weekly Newsletter

Dear Parents,

As always it has been a very busy week in school, starting with the annual Conker Competition. All the children arrived at school with their shiny conkers ready for an intense afternoon of conkers. Thank you to Mr Coyle for organising the event. Please see below for our winners and photographs.

Form 5 had an exciting afternoon taking part in a live webinar with Steve Backshall finding out about extreme underwater habitats, and mind-blowing new species discovered by the Ocean Census science teams. The children were very eager to tell me about the lesson and I think we have a few budding marine biologists in our midst.

Today, Form 6 received a history talk about the life in Victorian Maldon from local historian Stephen Nunn.

I would like to welcome Miss Ingram to the Maldon Court School family. Miss Ingram has taken up the position of Head Cook and the children are enjoying some Maldon Court favourites alongside some new recipes.

Welcome also to Leo who started in Nursery and Monaé-Bléu who started in Form 3 this week. They have settled well into Maldon Court and I know you will make them and their families welcome at our school.

Congratulations to Ottis in Pre-Reception who has welcomed a baby sister. We are looking forward to seeing her in school.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Nursery

This week, Nursery have been discussing our favourite stories and rhymes. The children completed a lovely picture at home to represent their favourite story or rhyme and also brought in a favourite book for Show and Tell to share with their friends.

Throughout the week, we have explored two of our favourite stories. At the beginning of the week, we looked at our Owl Babies story sack and enjoyed listening to the story and exploring the bag and its contents. We also explored a tuff tray representing the nest and the woods where the owls live in the story.

For our physical activity, we pretended to be owls! We flew, swooped and flapped our wings before returning to our nest at the end of the session.

During the second part of the week, we had lots of fun with The Gingerbread Man, ending the week with a Gingerbread Day. The children dressed as gingerbread men and ladies and enjoyed making some tasty gingerbread men biscuits to taste. It has been a lovely week filled with stories, rhymes, imagination and lots of fun!

RECEPTION

Reception enjoyed taking part in their first annual conker competition. With the help of their Form 6 buddies, the children learnt how to play the traditional autumnal game, and we had some strong competitors! The children all had a fantastic afternoon and showed great determination.

FORM 4

This has been a busy week. We have looked at how physical activity affects the body in PSHE and why moving is so important to our physical and mental wellbeing; we have made standing stones and written in ogham as part of our studies of the Anglo-Saxons, Picts and Scots and, in science, we have been on an invertebrate hunt using our classification keys to identify what we found.

POWER Cheer Assembly

We have been very lucky this week to welcome Power Cheer Ltd into school for an exciting assembly demonstration! Power Cheer is a fantastic local cheerleading company based in Maldon, offering a range of clubs and classes. The children were amazed to watch an action-packed demonstration featuring stunts, tumbling, jumps, teamwork and incredible athleticism. We were lucky enough to see some truly breath-taking stunts and impressive tumbles!

If your child is interested in giving cheerleading a try, please take a look at the Power Cheer leaflet inside their school diary for more information.
