Dear Parents,
As the weather is warming up and the sun is shining, the children are enjoying being outside, let us hope this lovely weather continues for what will be a busy term.
This week clubs started and the children were enjoying taking part in a whole host of activities, including Technology club, STEM club, Film Club and Sports Club. It is fantastic to see the children actively embracing and having fun in all these activities.
Following on from last week’s exciting start to the summer term, on Thursday and Friday Form 4 went on their residential trip to Danbury Outdoors. The children had an action-packed adventure with ariel trekking, vertical challenge, and zip wire to name but a few, making some wonderful memories with their friends. Thank you to Mrs Baron, Mrs Knight and Mrs Wilkins for kindly giving your time and looking after the children on their first Maldon Court residential.
On Friday afternoon, Mr Coyle, Reggie, Oscar, Paige and Thea represented the school at the KS1 Active Essex Sports Award ceremony where they collected a certificate on behalf of all KS1. Active Essex is an Essex County Council initiative that recognises excellence in the delivery of physical activity, PE and school sport, to KS1 children. The children took part in some physical activities and had the opportunity to meet Bezzy, the Active Essex mascot! Well done KS1, Mr Coyle and Miss Broadbridge – a fantastic achievement!
Well done to Evie who won the Headteacher’s Award this week for putting fantastic effort into her learning in school and at home.
Next week, Form 6 will be completing the Bikeability course which is designed to ensure children have the confidence and independence to cycle safely on the roads today.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to seeing everyone on Monday.

Nursery
This week Nursery have really enjoyed getting fully involved in our Space topic. We have been preparing to travel to space by taking part in an astronaut training camp, complete with weight training, climbing activities and an area to prepare food for our journey.
The children have shown a strong interest in learning about astronauts and space travel. They created their own astronaut collage pictures and adding their own faces to become astronauts.
They also enjoyed some fantastic sensory tuff trays, with a range of materials made into rocket shapes. We have been practising our counting skills, counting down together: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1… Blast off.

PRE-RECEPTION
The children have enjoyed getting stuck in to our whole school topic ‘Space’. We learnt lots of interesting facts about space and the different planets in the solar system.
Pre-Reception have explored a range of fun activities including making their own planets using a balloon and discussing what is good and what is bad for our planet.
The children also enjoyed playing in our space station themed home corner where their imagination ran wild and fantastic games were played.

FORM 1
Form 1 have had a fantastic start to their new science topic ‘On Safari’ starting with learning all about invertebrates.
Last week, we all headed outdoors for an exciting invertebrate hunt. Armed with magnifying glasses and a collection cup, the children explored their surroundings and discovered a wide variety of tiny creatures, from slugs to woodlouse to ladybirds. It was wonderful to see their excitement as they carefully observed and collected these insects. Back in the classroom, the investigation continued as the children took a closer look at the invertebrates they had found. They discussed their features and habitats well.
This week, Form 1 have been building on their knowledge by comparing invertebrates to humans. They have been particularly interested in how different creatures use their senses in unique ways. We enjoyed learning how some invertebrates like butterflies taste using their feet. It has been a brilliant start to the topic, and we are looking forward to discovering even more about the fascinating world of invertebrates and other animals in the coming weeks.

FORM 3
In our computing lessons this half term, Form 3 will be focusing on internet safety while also working on the computers to develop their touch-typing skills. We got started with this in our previous lesson by learning about the ‘home row’ of keys on our keyboards. We discussed how our hands should be placed and which fingers we should be using on each letter to help improve our speed and accuracy. The children loved using the BBC game ‘Dance Mat Typing’ and have been working their way through level 1. I have no doubt that we will soon have a whole class of very capable, confident typists.

Healthy SchoolS Committee
Earlier this year, the committee expressed a desire for somewhere that the older children could escape to. As we are working towards a greener, healthier environment we decided upon a willow dome. Thanks to the generous gift from the Masons, our dome is planted and doing well, it is just in front of the Eco Committee’s hedge planted last year.
